Star Wars Outlaws: An Original Adventure Uninfluenced by Star Wars 1313

Ubisoft, the developer behind the upcoming open-world title Star Wars Outlaws, has recently shared new details about the game, emphasizing its originality and lack of influence from the cancelled Star Wars 1313. In an interview with IGN, the game’s narrative director Navid Khavari, creative director Julian Gerighty, and Lucasfilm senior creative executive Matt Martin, discussed the game’s unique tone that aims to be both recognizable and original for fans. One of the key elements of Star Wars Outlaws is the moon Toshara, inspired by biomes in East Africa. This setting embodies the “80/20 rule” that Lucasfilm applies to its Star Wars properties. As Martin explained, “It’s 80% familiar, 20% alien, 20% fantastical.” The collaboration with Ubisoft Massive has been fruitful, with the team bringing forward great ideas and deep cuts into the Star Wars universe. The game’s timeline is also unique. Unlike recent Star Wars games like Star Wars Jedi:…

The Best Star Wars Game Never Made? – Investigating Star Wars 1313

You know how we love Star Wars games around here, and this isn’t the first time a game we were excited about has been cancelled, but Star Wars 1313 was unique in that it had a gritty, darker feel to it than any other Star Wars game to come out before it. It really spoke to an older audience and it was going to be a great 3rd person shooter, even without the Star Wars theme to it. Add that element, that you could be your own bounty hunter, and you can see why it really stood out to a certain class of fans. It was also evolved to look like Boba Fett would be the lead in this game. Either way, it was never meant to be, so we’d never see this come to life. If you want to learn more about the game that would never be, check…

Jesse Harlin Talks Star Wars 1313 and More

PC Gamer’s Joe Donnelly talks with Mafia 3’s composer about Star Wars 1313, the blues, mariachi bands in Monkey Island and much more. The interview is really interesting and it’s well worth the time for you to head on over and read it in full for yourself. If you’re not familiar with Jesse Harlin, chances are you are familiar with his work and you might not even know it. He composed the music for Star Wars: Republic Commando, Battlefront 2, and The Old Republic. Some of his hard work was also slashed when 1313 was tossed in the reject bin, Sadly, just like the game itself, this is something we may never get to hear. In his interview, he says this of the score: “The Massive Attack-meets-Star Wars song is sadly totally resigned to the history books,” says Harlin. “I don’t have a copy of it, it’s sitting somewhere on an…

Still Hope for Star Wars 1313

While it might seem that Star Wars 1313 is shelved forever, there might still be hope for the game. In an interview with Slashfilm, head of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, told the site that Lucasfilm is still looking at George Lucas’ live action Star Wars TV show, as well as Star Wars 1313. This is good news for fans of Star Wars games (like us!) who have feared the third-person action adventure was dead forever. Speaking of the TV show and the game, Kennedy said there is still hope. “We don’t want to throw any of that stuff away,” Kennedy told Slashfilm. “It’s gold. And it’s something we’re spending a lot of time looking at, pouring through, discussing, and we may very well develop those things further. We definitely want to.” The game was originally announced just before E3 in 2012, and some of you might remember us telling you about it. Then they showed…

Star Wars Battlefront: Lessons from Star Wars 1313

We have talked at length here about Star Wars games- those in the past, current games and games of the future. Looking back at 2012 (it seems like just yesterday) we can recollect on several Star Wars games, including the much-anticipated Star Wars 1313 that would never become a reality. Remember the trailers? Remember E3 and the gameplay footage that got us all excited? Then it was all ripped away from us as we were told that we would not be seeing this game after all. Movie Pilot has some theories that 1313 will live on in a way by potentially influencing Star Wars Battlefront. “But what about Star Wars 1313? Can it leave behind any information for us? A lasting legacy? Can it show us what sort of gameplay we could expect from Star Wars Battlefront 3? Maybe, or maybe not, either way, I just want to look at…

George Lucas Wanted Boba Fett to Lead Star Wars 1313

I Think most people agree with me that Star Wars 1313 could have been an awesome game. Everything about it  just looked so cool. But unfortunately we all know the game will never happened. Mainly due to poor management by Lucasarts. Today we learned some more about what happened behind the scenes.  Just a few weeks before Star Wars 1313 was official announced, George Lucas himself told the developers he wanted the game to be about Boba Fett and not the protagonist we saw at E3. This of course created some what of a dilemma, as there were no Boba Fess assets ready before the public got a first glimpse of the game. Check out this great write-up over at Game Informer the downfall of “Star Wars 1313″ and LucasArts, headlined “Fall Of The Empire: How Inner Turmoil Brought Down LucasArts.” Here’s an excerpt about Boba Fett in particular being…

Gamers petition for EA to finish Star Wars 1313

Gamers have started a petition on Change.org, in an attempt to influence Electronic Arts into resuming development on 1313 and eventually allow the game to see the light of day. After Disney acquired LucasArts in 2013, all employees were laid off and the company was shut down, thus cancelling all current projects. This included games such as Star Wars 1313 and Star Wars: First Assault. We are not sure how effective petitions like this is, but we do urge all our readers to sign it. Hopefully it will o influence Electronic Arts into resuming development on 1313 and eventually allow the game to see the light of day. You can sign the petition over at  Change.org Here’s the summary: At E3 2012 Lucasarts wowed us with a demo of Star Wars 1313.  Gamers around the world were blown away with 1313.  We could finally play a gritty dirty Star Wars game as a bounty hunter on Coruscant.  After Lucasarts was disbanded and the Star…

Will EA Announce a Continuation of Star Wars 1313 at E3?

Have you been waiting for a new Star Wars game like us? What do you think about news that Star Wars 1313 might be back in production? It’s just a rumor but some people suspect there might be a new life to the game after all. The Star Wars Underworld tells us about the rumor that EA could be announcing this at E3: Could Star Wars 1313 have new life?  After the shut down of LucasArts earlier this year it was believed that all Star Wars projects it had been working on had died with it, this may not be the case.  A leaked document containing a list of all the projects that will be announced during E3 has appeared on the Spanish website Area Jugones and on that list is Star Wars 1313 (sadly there is no mention of Battlefront 3).   Now remember, this is just a rumor and needs to be taken…

Star Wars 1313 – What Could Have Been

There have been almost too many canceled Star Wars games to count, but one that makes us really sad is Star Wars 1313. It had a lot of potential, but unfortunately was trashed before it would get to see the light of day. To recap for those who don’t remember, this wasn’t the canceled Star Wars game from Visceral Games, or the open world one that came right after the closing of Visceral. This was, indeed, another Star Wars games, from back when LucasArts was still making the games themselves. Star Wars 1313 predates Lucasfilm getting bought by Disney and the licensing of Star Wars games going to EA. Star Wars 1313 was canceled back in 2013, after it had been put on hold for a year, back in 2012. So what’s new? Last month, Naughty Dog animator Jonathan Cooper shared an animation on Twitter giving us a little look…

Disney Lets Stars Wars 1313 Trademarks Expire

Now that they have officially decided to cease production of Star Wars 1313, Disney has let the trademark expire. This is the final nail in the coffin and signifies the time to give up hope if you were thinking that maybe, just maybe, they might change their mind about producing this game. It’s official: trademark’s status on the US Patent and Trademark Office had changed to “Abandoned” as of the end of last year. Back in 2012 when the game was initial shown during E3, we were all excited. It was to be developed on a modified Unreal Engine 3 and you could play as Boba Fett. Fans were enamored. But sadly, the game was not meant to be. It’s really a shame that Disney let this one go because as recently as just last year, it seemed to have a lot of hope and promise. It’s not really clear why this…

Star Wars: 1313 Development on Hold?

We’ve told you about Star Wars:1313 here in the past and have been following the production of the game to give you updates whenever possible. Well, it now seems like the development has stalled out. Will this be a temporary pause or is the whole game on shutdown? We don’t actually know right now. As Eucantina explains: The very impressive looking and possibly next-generation video game Star Wars: 1313 hasn’t been heard about since its last major showing at Star Wars Celebration VI in August. When Disney acquired Lucasfilm, and thus LucasArts, word started to spread that Disney’s video game focus would be more on casual games than AAA console titles like 1313 was shaping up to be. Some fans started to get nervous. What did this mean for 1313? Would development shift to a different developer as Disney decided how to best use LucasArts? Would the game be cancelled? It wouldn’t be the first time an anticipated Star…

Star Wars 1313 Featured at this Year’s E3

At the 2012 E3 expo, one of the highlights was Star Wars 1313, reportedly a new and darker Star Wars game put together by many division of the Lucasfilm organization, according to a recent blog on GameNGuide.com by Juan G. Rodriguez. While Industrial Light & Magic’s visual effects supervisor Kim Libreri noted that he believes “in 10 years game graphics will have advanced to the point of being indistinguishable from reality,” adding, “one day it will be impossible to spot the differences between real-time rendering and live action.” The early footage of Star Wars 1313 reportedly showcases fluid animation and cinematic quality visuals but does not approach anything near photorealistic quality. With the leaps and bounds in advancing technology and the difference in what video games looked like just a decade ago compared to today, it is not surprising to hear Libreri’s opinion on where they’ll be another ten years…

Star Wars 1313: A New Hope or a Phantom Menace?

Late last month, LucasArts took the wraps off Star Wars 1313, a third-person action-adventure game set on the planet of Coruscant. At the E3 conference in Los Angeles last week, LucasArts has debuted the first batch of footage for its forthcoming title – and safe to say, it resembles very little that has come before. In the clip, which features a cut scene and a few seconds of gameplay from a PC version of Star Wars 1313, a nameless bounty hunter descends hundreds of levels below the surface of Coruscant, to an area called 1313. There, some sort of accident leaves his transport vessel in flames, and the bounty hunter is forced to leap and scramble from one fiery scrap of metal to another. “”Star Wars 1313 dives into a part of the Star Wars mythos that we’ve always known existed, but never had a chance to visit,” Paul Meegan,…

Star Wars 1313 Announced

After much anticipation, Lucas Arts finally announced the name of their new Star Wars game- Star Wars 1313. This is a mature-themed game which is set in a dark, vast subterranean metropolis that is found beneath the surface of Coruscant. You play a bounty hunter (which is think is really cool) but I’m a little curious about where this storyline is going to go and why it’s rated mature. They say this game is definitely created for the adult set. So I want to see more but I guess we have to wait for E3 for that. It’s a third-person action game built with Unreal Engine 3 as a base, and Lucas Arts has mentioned that the production values are quite high with, LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, Lucasfilm Animation Ltd. and Skywalker Sound all working on the game. LucasArts president Paul Meegan said, “Star Wars 1313 dives into a part…

The Art of Star Wars Outlaws: Pre-Order Now for a Galactic Experience!

Behind the Music of Star Wars Outlaws: Crafting the Soundtrack of the Galaxy’s Underworld

Behind the Music of Star Wars Outlaws: Crafting the Soundtrack of the Galaxy’s Underworld If there’s one thing the Star Wars universe consistently nails, it’s the music. Lightsabers clash, ships scream through hyperspace, and somewhere—probably—John Williams’ ghost of inspiration hovers in the background. So when Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws started dropping breadcrumbs about its soundscape, it was time to pay attention. The full story, including insights from the composers themselves, was recently covered in this excellent Thumbsticks article. After all, this isn’t just another pew-pew adventure in a galaxy far, far away. It’s a story set in the morally ambiguous, vibey underbelly of the Star Wars timeline, and the music? It had to match that grit. Scoring the Outlaws’ Playground Star Wars Outlaws is a bold departure from the Jedi-centric epics we’re used to. The story centers on Kay Vess, a cunning scoundrel trying to get by in a galaxy…
